MCP – A New Acronym in the World of Business Software
AI has been woven into Tarkma for a couple of years now, with agentic development being the norm over the past year. And finally, the technology has reached a level of maturity where we can add another way of using Tarkma alongside its user interface: interacting with it directly through AI, for example by chatting with ChatGPT.
The acronym to learn now, if you haven't come across it yet, is MCP. It's another one of those terms, like API, JSON or XML. They all mean different things, but over the years they've also been the kind of buzzwords you can casually slip into a conversation about business software to show off your expertise, even if you're not entirely sure what they're truly about. MCP is the newcomer to this club of acronyms – a technology designed specifically to facilitate communication between AI and software.
This autumn, we released a solution called TarkmaConnect, initially for limited use. It was developed to connect Tarkma with virtually any other system. Integration itself is nothing new to Tarkma – Tarkma and its predecessors have been integrated with various software systems for more than 15 years. But AI, together with MCP, was the final piece of the puzzle that led us to conceptualize and design TarkmaConnect as a separate product.
What makes integration with AI through MCP exciting is that it's no longer just data or commands passing between different systems. It's reasoned thought.
